Wednesday 09/16/09 and Thursday 09/17/09

1. Your Narrative Essay is due at the VERY BEGINNING
of the period. Any essay that is not on the desk when
I begin to call roll will be considered to be late and
will receive only partial credit. Hand in your essay in
this order: Final copy on top and a corrected draft under
the final copy. Below that you can include any other papers
that you have written, such as a prewriting.
2. Study your class notes and be prepared to TAKE A TEST on
the following items that we have discussed in class and,
therefore, should be in your notes. These notes go back
to the beginning of the semester. 1. What are an essay, a short
essay, and an long essay? 2. What are the four characteristics
that a thesis sentence must have? 3. What so these words mean:
simile, metaphor, personification, hyperbole, and sensory
detail, and diction 4. What are the three categories [or forms]of
adjectives? {Reading pages 517-521 will help you.] 6. What are
five examples of fragments and two ways to join sentences. We
saw a PowerPoint on these. 7. What do "comma splice" and "fused
sentence" mean? [PowerPoint] 8. How do you narrow a topic?
9. What are the five prewriting techniques? THIS TEST WILL
PRIMARILY BE A FILL-IN-THE-BLANK TEST or LISTING.
