Assignment for Thursday, 3/01/07

Study your class notes for a test today, including the three parts of the essay (page 11); plan of development; use of words in a sentence (single word, phrase, clause); recognizing the types of phrases; recognizing the types of clauses; methods to combine independent clauses; the seven coordinators; subordinators; brainstorming steps; primary, secondary, and tertiary supports; the relation of the outline to topic sentences; quotations (pages 508-514); capitals (pages 490-497); and apostrophes (pages 501-506).
Anyone who did not complete the writing assignment on page 640 or page 677 must turn it in today (see the previous assignment blogs).

Assignment for Tuesday, 2/27/07

(1) Read "Bombs Bursting in Air" on pages 672-675.
(2) On pages 677-678, you will find three Writing Assignments. Select one; on paper brainstorm the topic; write a 450-550 word draft with the basic five paragraphs and save it; print a copy and revise on the printed copy; bring the revised copy and the brainstorm to class on Tuesday. [Remember to save the essay.]
(3)Read pages 480-482 and type Review Test 2.

Review and learn the personal pronous; review and learn your notes about PERSON; review your notes on THIS,THESE, THAT, THOSE as pronouns; read pages 469-474; Type the activity beginning on page 571 by typing the number and the answer (either S or O);Type the Review Test on page 474 by typing the number and the answer. You can type both of these on the same sheet. Review your notes and text pages 501-507 "Apostophe" and pages 508-514 "Quotation Marks." You will have a test on apostrohpes and quoataions marks this Thursday 2/22/07 and your class notes.

Assignment for Tuesday, 2/20/07

Your homework for Tuesday has three parts.
(1) Following the explanation and examples of Common Methods of Introduction beginning on page 86, write the following types of introductions: 1. Begin with a broad general statement of your topic and narrow it down to your thesis statement
3. Explain the importance of your topic to the reader; 4. Use an incident of a brief story; and 5. Ask one or more questions (don't exceed three). For each of these introductions, use this thesis sentence: Fast food should be regulated.The intro-
duction paragraphs should be no longer than three to five sentences.
(2) Following the explanation and examples of Concluding Paragraph beginnig on page 89, write three concluding paragraphs for this thesis sentence: Fast food should be regulated. The concluding paragraphs should be no longer than three to five sentences.
(3)Read Titles on pages 91 to 92 and complete the activity on page 92 by writing the numbers 1, 2, and 3 and thinking up a title for each introductory paragraph.

Type all three homework parts on the same page.

Complete ACTIVITY on page 104 by writing the number and the answer and complete ACTIVITY on page 105 by writing the number and the correct pronoun. TYPE ALL OF THE ACTIVITY ASSIGNMENTS. These four activity assignemnts are due on Thursday.

Study your notes from the Power Point on Steps in Writing. Next, read pages 636-639 and type the answers to Reading Comprehension on page 637. Write a narative (350-450 words) for either Writing Assignments 1 OR 2. Use this process: 1. Select the topic; 2. Brainstorm the topic to select details; 3. Create and outline, type a draft, save the draft; 4. Print the draft and make corrections on the printed page; 5. Transfer the corrections to the computer; 6. Print a final copy and hand in the draft AND the final copy, with the final copy and outline on top.
