1. Read "Use Prewriting Techniques" on pages 68-71.
OMIT "Using the Internet." List the five techniques and
a brief 1-2 sentence definition for each technique.
2. Study for the terms test. ADD THIS TERM: UTILITY
WORDS--words that have no specific meaning, that convey
feelings and have no concrete meaning, that are
non-specific. Remember that the terms test will include
the handout on personal pronouns.
3. Read "Capitialization" on pages 712-717. Pay particular
attention to the "specific" and the "Not specific" examples
on these pages
4. Read "Quotation Marks" on pages 696-701. Pay particular
attention to the guidelines for capitalization and punctuation
on page 697.

Due Thursday, 01/21/10

1. Read "Fragments" on pages 401-414.
2. Complete Editing Review 1(5 fragments) by
typing the NUMBER of the sentence that contains
the fragment. You do not have to type the entire
sentence. Be prepared to correct the fragment
orally in class if you are called upon.
3. Do the same for Editing Review 2 (4 fragments),
Editing Review 3 (5 fragments), and Editing Review 4
(5 fragments and 4 formal English errors). For each editing
review, type the number of the sentence that contains the
fragment. Also be prepared to correct each fragment orally
in class. Each person will have at least one fragment to
correct orally in class. If you want, you may write notes
to use in class when your turn comes to orally correct a fragment.

Assignment due Tuesday, 1/19/10 at 9:30 am

1. Read pages 388 The Basic Sentence to page 395.
Complete Practice 2 on page 390 by typing the sentence
number and typing only the Subject and the Verb for
each sentence.

2. In Practice 3 on page 394, type the sentence number and
only the subject and the verb for each sentence.

3. The final copy of the interview is also due today.
To hand in, staple the BLUE assignment sheet on top, the
FINAL COPY second, and the rough draft third.

Due Wednesday, 11/11/09, or Thursday, 11/12/09

1. Complete the editing assignment sheet that I
gave you in the last class.

Due Monday, 11/09/09, or Tuesday, 11/10/09

1. Write the assigned essay following the
instructions on the handout. Be sure that you
complete ALL instructions.
2. Complete the comma assignment handout. Place
the commas where they are needed, and in the blank
place the number that identifies the comma usage
for that sentence. Only one number per sentence.
3. You will have a retest on subject-verb agreement
during your Monday or Tuesday class.

Due Wednesday, 11/04/09 or Tuesday, 11/05/09

1. Read chapter 37 "Commas" on pages 673-684.
Type a list of the comma uses discussed in this
chapter and type an example for each use.
