1. FOR TUESDAY:Read "Problems with Subject-Verb Agreement"
on pages 434-447. Read the following sentences, find any
subject-verb agreement errors, and CORRECT THE ERROR IF THERE IS
ONE. TYPE THE CORRECTED SENTENCES: (This will count as a test.)
A. Some mictowave ovens (do, does) leak some radiation.
B. Students in this class (have, has) probably taken a
standardized test.
C. Most parents with a hearing loss (has, have) children
who can hear.
D. A person who lies on job applications (is, are) likely
to get caught.

2. Bring to class on TUESDAY all that you have written on the contrast
essay on children's toys.

1. Complete your essay assignment on contrasting
the toys for female children with the toys for
male children. Go to a large store and actually
look for the toys so that you can see, touch, and play
with the toys to give you more of a perspective
about the toys. See them as the children see them.
Someone asked about color; you can use color if the
color is used for a specific reason. You can sent
THE ESSAY to SmarThinking if you send it NO LATER THAN MONDAY
so you can get it back in time to correct.

2. Write a five paragraph essay complete with outline,
introductory paragraph, body consisting of at least
three paragraphs, and a closing paragraph. Use this
process: Write a draft, print that draft,revise and
proofread the printed draft as you mark
on the printed copy. Do not correct on the screen until
you have marked the printed draft. Then, make the corrections
on the screen, which should give you a final draft.

3.Print this draft and hand it in stapled with the outline on
TOP of the final copy, then the corrected marked draft,
and finally any prewriting you may have completed.
THIS WILL BE A GRADED ESSAY.

Due 3/27/12---Engl 1301

1. Your next Miscellaneous Writing is due. Follow the
instructions on the assignment sheet. Proofread and
revise using the Essay Guidelines sheet. Staple your
assignment in this order: Outline; Final Copy; Draft.

2. You will have a Parallelism test. Bring a blue scan sheet.

3. Subject-Verb agreement means that the subject and the verb
must agree (match) in number. Read pages 434-436. The chart
on page 451 shows five trouble spots that can cause problems
with subject-verb agreement. Read about these five trouble
spots and understand how the problem occurs.
