1. Read "Word Choice" on pages 849-861 [omit 854 abd 855.] The top of page 849 gives you the four topics covered on these pages. As you read, your will see words in bold black print.Type the black bold print words and their meaings. 2. Beginning on page 857 "Bias-Free Language," type the revised Example listed in RED under 18b through 18g. 3. Read "Wordiness" on page 860. Why are the SAMPLE WINDY WORDS AND PHRASES considered to be wordy? 4. Bring an outline of your Miscellaneous Writing.

Monday 9/10/12 and Tuesday 9/11/12

1. This assignment is a reading assignment to introduce some terms and meanings. Read Chapter 3, pages 36 to page 51. Notice the outlined method that the author uses to discuss this chapter: The large red headings are major divisions, and the smaller red headings are secondary suppports. You should not read all of this at once; there is a lot of material. Be ready to discuss this material. 2. Bring a blue scan sheet for the test on Capitals, Apostrophes, and Quotation marks. Review carefully ALL of the material in the book concerning these marks.

1. Study all comma uses. You will have a comma test on Tuesday, 4/24/12. Bring a blue Scantron sheet. 2. On page 685 of the textbook, complete EDITING REVIEW 2 by adding commas where they are needed. Mark the commas in the book. You do not have to type this exercise!Do not tear the pages out of the book. Notice that there is a total 39 commas needed to correctly complete the exercise.

and add and underline commas where they are needed.

Essay, you will NOT be able to any outside resources,
just you and Word Office.

The Contrast essay is DUE on Tuesday, April 10. Late
essays lose ten points PER DAY.
This will be a Major Essay Grade!
