1. Study all comma uses. You will have a comma test
on Tuesday, 4/24/12. Bring a blue Scantron sheet.
2. On page 685 of the textbook, complete EDITING REVIEW 2
by adding commas where they are needed. Mark the commas
in the book. You do not have to type this exercise!Do not
tear the pages out of the book. Notice that there is a
total 39 commas needed to correctly complete the exercise.

1. Your Contrast essay is due today. A Late Penalty
will apply to essays handed in after I call roll.
2. Read "Commas" on pages 673--573. Type these sentences
and add and underline commas where they are needed.
A. Soft drinks candy bars and some gum are high in sugar content.
B. Some product don't list sugar but they do list fructose.
C. We had an entire month of cold damp grey weather.
D. I had to help Bob for he had helped me last week.
E. According to the evening news a hurricane is espected tonight.
F. Usually hurricanes are not common inland.
G. Parking fees I was told are going to increase next year.
H. Your transfer incidentally is approved.
I. have an apointment with Dr. Ozz a sleep specialist.
J. I replied My address is 17 West 10th Street Waco Texas currently.

the Writing Center and SmartThinking. However, DO NOT
get used to using their assistance. For your Final Exam
Essay, you will NOT be able to any outside resources,
just you and Word Office.
The Contrast essay is DUE on Tuesday, April 10. Late
essays lose ten points PER DAY.
This will be a Major Essay Grade!

1. FOR TUESDAY:Read "Problems with Subject-Verb Agreement"
on pages 434-447. Read the following sentences, find any
subject-verb agreement errors, and CORRECT THE ERROR IF THERE IS
ONE. TYPE THE CORRECTED SENTENCES: (This will count as a test.)
A. Some mictowave ovens (do, does) leak some radiation.
B. Students in this class (have, has) probably taken a
standardized test.
C. Most parents with a hearing loss (has, have) children
who can hear.
D. A person who lies on job applications (is, are) likely
to get caught.
E. The director nor the producers (decides, decide)on the process.
F. A child and an adult (has, have) different nutritional needs.
G. Nobody concerned about health(wants, want)risky exercises.
H. There (is, are) a plate and a cup on the table.
I. The cows in the herd (has, have) multiple stomachs.

the toys for female children with the toys for
male children. Go to a large store and actually
look for the toys so that you can see, touch, and play
with the toys to give you more of a perspective
about the toys. See them as the children see them.
Someone asked about color; you can use color if the
color is used for a specific reason. You can sent
THE ESSAY to SmarThinking if you send it NO LATER THAN MONDAY
so you can get it back in time to correct.
2. Write a five paragraph essay complete with outline,
introductory paragraph, body consisting of at least
three paragraphs, and a closing paragraph. Use this
process: Write a draft, print that draft,revise and
proofread the printed draft as you mark
on the printed copy. Do not correct on the screen until
you have marked the printed draft. Then, make the corrections
on the screen, which should give you a final draft.
3.Print this draft and hand it in stapled with the outline on
TOP of the final copy, then the corrected marked draft,
and finally any prewriting you may have completed.

revise using the Essay Guidelines sheet. Staple your
assignment in this order: Outline; Final Copy; Draft.
2. You will have a Parallelism test. Bring a blue scan sheet.
3. Subject-Verb agreement means that the subject and the verb
must agree (match) in number. Read pages 434-436. The chart
on page 451 shows five trouble spots that can cause problems
with subject-verb agreement. Read about these five trouble
spots and understand how the problem occurs.
