I've been ill since Wednesday night (BOO) and haven't been
able to post until Sunday afternoon. See you tomorrow. Oh,
and there will be no test Monday.(YEA)

Wednesday-Engl 1301-1011 & 1301-1016

TRIO is offering to organize some workshops on various
aspects of writing and grammar. Any student can attend
WITHOUT enrolling in the TRIO program. If you are interested
in attending, please let me know whether you want writing,
grammar, or both. This is completely voluntary on your part.

1. Today you will have a test on Apostrophes, Quotations,
and Capitals. Monday's blog mentioned the page numbers that
cover the topics. Please read these pages and study for the
test. You DO NOT need to bring a Scan sheet.
2. Now that we have discussed the thesis sentence "People
should be required to belong to a religious organization,"
rethink your supports, remove those that do not now fit,
create new ones,and reorganize them into a formal outline.
3. Study more for the Apostrophes, Quotations,and Capitals
test. Make up your own quiz or go over the exercises in the
book. I would like to have high grades on the test, and I
hope that you do,too.

1. Complete the prewriting exercise Plus...Neutral...Minus
for this thesis sentence:People should be required to belong
to a religious organization." Remember that on the Plus you put
reasons in favor of the thesis sentence, and on the Minus side
you put reasons against. Review your class notes on
Critical Thinking BEFORE you begin this exercise. Turn this
prewriting into an outline using the thesis sentence written
above concerning religious organizations. DO NOT write an
essay. Turn in your outline PLUS all your prewiting.

2. Complete the handout on Distinguishing Fact from Opinion.
You can write on the handout.

3. Study "Misplaced and Dangling Modifiers" on pages 531-537.
We have discussed these in class, but reviewing these pages
will help you on the TEST on Monday. Bring a blue Scan sheet.

4. Review the previously assigned pages on "Apostrophes"
(688-690),"Quotation Marks" (696-700), amd "Capitals" (712-716).
If you have any questions on these three topics, please ask
on Monday because you will have a test on these three on Wednesday.

5. You had written three introductory paragraphs on this thesis
sentence: People reveal much about themselves by the way they
act in public. Now write two more that you did NOT use previously.
The five introductory paragraphs as listed on pages 112-114.
**Some people have not been turning in assignments. Remember that
at the end of the semester you LOSE points for homework that is
not turned. Late homework is accepted for review only, not for credit.

1. BRING A BLUE SCAN SHEET. WE WILL HAVE A TEST ON SUBJECT-
VERB AGREEMENT.
2. For this test, study the exercise sheets that we discussed
on Monday, 10/04/2010. The sentences will be similar.
3. Write and type three different introductory paragraphs on
this thesis sentence: People reveal much about themselves by
the way they act in public. Create a brief simple outline,
write three different introductory paragraphs, identity the type
of paragraph you are writing of the five mentioned on pages 112-114.
Each paragraph should be 4-6 sentences, and the thesis sentence
should be the last sentence in the paragraph. If you wish, you
may add the Plan of Development, which we had previously discussed.
