1. Read "Problems with Subject-Verb Agreement" on pages 434-
447. For Practice 4 on page 440, type only the number and the
correct verb for sentences 1-5; for Practice 5 on page 442,
type only the numbers 1-5 and the correct verb; for Practice 6
on page 443, type only the numbers 1-5 and the correct verb;
for Practice 8 on page 447, type only the numbers 1-5 and the
correct verb.
2. Complet Editing Review 1 by typing the number of any
sentence with an error and the correction for that sentence.
3. Read "Parallelism" on pages 553-557. For Practice 2 on
page 556, type only the sentence nuber and your correction for
that number. complete all sentences in this practice.
4. Be prepared to ask any question that you may have on
Subject-Verb Agreement and Parallelism.

1. Study the textbook sections on Capitals (p 712),
Apostrophes (p 688), and Quotation Marks (p 696).
You will have a test on these three. BRING A BLUE
SCAN SHEET AND A #2 PENCIL FOR THE TEST.

2. Use the handout that contains 44 items (at the
top of the sheet is the lable "Outline Exercise 1)
to prepare a Formal Outline. (See a sample formal
outline on p 105). Your homework exercise will need
four levels for some primary supports. A model of
the four level outline is included on the right hand
side of the assignment sheet.You do not have to type
the outline; you can very carefully hand print it.
Remember that you must use all 44 items; you
cannot add items or remove items.

3. Using the returned assignment from Tuesday, 2/9/10,
[the third part], use one sentence as a topic sentence
to type a long paragraph (250-350 words]. The three
items that you added to any of the sentences will
serve as the secondary supports for the topic sentence.
You need to add details to each secondary suppport. Do
this:(1) prepare and type an outline, (2) type and print a
double-spaced draft and make corrections on the printed
copy,(3) type and print a corrected double-spaced copy,
(4)hand them in with the outline first, the final copy
second, and any other papers third.

1. Review the pages on apostrophes, capitals, and quotation
marks. We will rapidly go over the examples in the book.
Be prepared to ask any questions that you may have. We will
have a TEST on these three on Thursday, 2/11/10. Bring a Scan
sheet for the test.
2. Complete the Transitions handout that you received in class
on Thursday. Remember that the transitions are listed on
page 136. Read "Practice Revising for Coherence" on pages
135-137. This is an example of the use of transitions
in a short essay.
3. Complete these three sentences: When I am angry, I express
this anger by _______________, ____________, and ___________.
When I want to relax. I __________________, I_______________,
or I _______________. My favorite things to do are __________,
________________, and _____________. Be sure to TYPE these
responses to hand in.

Your assignment sheet has instructions for handing
in the paper. Please follow those instructions.
2. Today we will have a retest of the Terms Test.

688-694; Quotation marks, pages 696-702; and Capitals,
pages 712-717.

1. You have a Narrarive assignment that was handed out last
class period. (1)Read the assignment sheet and use one of the
prewriting techniques to gather your ideas. (2) Narrow your
topic and prepare a simple outline. (3) Type a rough draft
[your first copy]. Your rough draft is due Tuesday. You do
not have to type the prewriting or the simple outline.
2. Study for the retest on the terms on Thursday.

1. Study for the test over the class notes on grammar
that were covered in class last period.
2. Read in the text book "10 Narration" on pages
147-154. Notice the "Four Basics of Good Narration"
on page 147.
3. Study some more for the test.
