2. Go to www.mhhe.com/langan/diagonstics, click on
Diagnostic C on the left column, and take the test.
Remember to enter my email [hcastil@templejc.edu] so
that I will receive a copy of the test results.
3. Read pages 25-33 "Prewriting." Know the five
prewriting techniques.
4. Read pages 33-39 and TYPE the answers to these questions:
(1) On page 35, what does "Revising" mean? (2)On page 35,
what are the three questions that you ask in Revising Content?
(3) On page 37, what do you do when you Edit your essay?
5. Read the sample of a revised student essay highlighted
in yellow on pages 37-39.

Due Tuesday, 4/08/08
1. Using your outline on religion, write a complete essay
of 500-600 words(intro paragraph ending with the thesis sentence),
support paragraphs (each beginning with a topic sentence
that supports the thesis sentence), and a closing paragraph
(see pages 93-95 - do NOT begin this paragraph with "In
conclusion" or "In closing"). You can change your outline
if you get a better idea. You should submit your essay
to SmarThinking to get suggestions on improving the
essay. Hand in the papers in this order: 1. The outline,
2. The final copy; 3. Draft with changes; 4. Comments from
SmarThinking if you submit it.

will give you a long paragraph to revise using these words.
If you find an error, you'll correct it. If the word is used
correctly, you'll leave it as it is.
3. Using your textbook and your class notes, evaluate the
sentences that are on the handout. Each sentence will be
identified as A. Fragment; B. Fused Sentence; C. Comma
Splice; or D. Correct Sentence. A good way to do this is
to try to correct the error that you identify. In class today,
you will also have a test over similar sentences with
similar errors.

In this method of writing, you support your thesis
sentence by giving specific examples. Your thesis
sentence could be "My best firend is not very
disciplined." One example could be that he puts
off dioing assignments until the night before they are
due. Another example could be that uses his credit
to buy items that he doesn't need. A third example could
be that he is easily talked into doing things he
doesn't really want to do.On page 239, several qualities
listed under Writing Assignment 2. Select one of the
qualities and develop an outline that gives three
examples that illustrate that quality.
