English 1301, due Thursday 2/14/08

1. Read page 80-89 "Step 3. Organize and Connect the
Specific Evidence," and complete all the exercises by
following the instructions in the text. Pay special
attention to "Common Transitions" on page 83.
2. On page 87, notice that you are given four strategies
under "Other Connecting Words."
3. Skip to pages 98-99 and do Activity 8 by following
the instructions in the text.
4. Remember that Miscellaneous Writing #2 is due.

Engl 1301, due Tuesday, 2/12/08

1. On text page 74, complete 5, 6, 7, and 8.
2. "Evaluating Thesis Statements," pages 67-69:
complete the exercises by writing in the letters
suggested in the instructions. We began this
exercise in class on Thursday,2/07/08.
3. Read pages 89-95, "Introductions, Conclusions,
and Titles," and complete the execises on page 93
and page 95 by writing in the letters suggested
in the instructions.
4. On page 607, complete "Editing Test 2" by following
the instructions at the top of the page.
5. I had handed out a sheet entitled "Editing Exercise."
Following the instructions at the top of the sheet,
complete the editing exercise by making the corrections
on the typed sheet. If you were absent when I handed
the sheet out last Thursday, come by my office on Monday
and get a copy.

Due Thursday, 2/07/08

1. You will have a test on the terms and
definitions on the handout. I will give you
the definitions with a blank before each
definition, and you will write the term
in the blank.
2. Your first Miscellaneous Assignment will be due.
Follow the directions on the handout. You may
select any of the fourteen topics.
3. Review your grammar notes on single words,
clauses, and phrases. You had completed a take-home
test on this last week. Ask about any item that
may be unclear so that we can go to the grammar.

Engl1301 due Tuesday, 2/05/08

1. Learn the seventeen terms and their definitions
listed on the front and back of the handout you
received in class on Thursday. We will have a test
on these terms on Thursday 2/05/08. On the test, I will
list the definitions as they appear on the handout
with a long blank line so that you can write the
term that is defined.
2. Type sentences that match the description given
for each number below. DO NOT USE ANY EXAMPLES FROM
THE TEXT OR FROM YOUR CLASS NOTES.
(1) simple sentence
(2) compound sentence
(3) complex sentence
(4) sentence with a compount subject
(5) sentence with a compound verb
(6) sentence beginning with an "-ing" phrase"
(7) sentence containing a single word modifier

Assignment DUE on Tuesday, 1/29

1. Using the outline that your developed based on "Me,"
write an essay from 450 - 550 words in length. Base your
introductory paragraph on one of the models on pages
90 - 92 and base your closing paragraph on one of the
models on pages 93 - 95. PROCESS: 1. Type a draft of
the esssay and print a copy. 2. Save the draft. 3. Make
any corrections on the PRINTED COPY. 4. Transfer the
corrections to the computer. 5. Print a final copy.
6. Hand in your papers stapled in this order: Outline,
Final Copy,Draft with corrections.
2. Learn the class notes.

SPRING SEMESTER 2008: Thursday, 1/24/08

1. Bring the Final Copy of the interview to class.
2. Read pages 4 through 12 and complete the
exercises by writing the answers IN THE BOOK.
3. Complete the brainstorm on "Me."
4.Prepare a thesis sentence on "Me."
5. Have at least three roman numerals and
at least two details for each roman numeral.
Outline only; do not write the peper.

1. Prepare the draft of the inteview.
